Why I Started Snail Mail Reviews: Bringing Back Connection Through Handwritten Reviews

Bringing back pen to paper.

In a world where everything is instant—messages, reviews, opinions—I found myself missing something I couldn’t quite explain.

Connection.

Not the kind that lives in comment sections or quick reactions, but the kind that takes time, intention, and effort. The kind that feels personal. And that’s where Snail Mail Reviews began.

My name is Erika, and I am the owner of Snail Mail Reviews.

What many people don’t know is that this didn’t just start overnight. I began reviewing brands back in 2013. It was something I genuinely enjoyed—sharing my thoughts, my experiences, and my perspective. But like many things in life, consistency came and went. Time passed, priorities shifted, and while the passion never left, the structure around it did.

Still, the desire to return to reviewing never really went away.

As the digital world continued to grow, I started noticing something deeper.

Everything became faster.
More automated.
More convenient.

But at the same time… something felt like it was being lost.

Connection started to feel surface-level.
Feedback felt rushed.
And community didn’t feel as strong as it once did.

As a millennial, I come from a time where communication looked different. We had PenPals. We wrote letters. We waited.

And in that waiting, there was intention.

One day, a thought came to me that immediately felt right:

What if I wrote directly to brands?

Not emails.
Not DMs.
Not comments.

But actual, handwritten letters.

Letters that shared my real experiences with their products and services. Letters that took time. Letters that required pause.

That idea stayed with me—and it didn’t just feel creative, it felt meaningful.

And that’s when Snail Mail Reviews was born.

Snail Mail Reviews is more than just product and service reviews.

It’s about:

  • slowing down communication

  • bringing intention back to feedback

  • creating real opportunities for connection

Through handwritten letters, I share honest reviews with brands and then take it a step further—exploring their full experience, from product to website, and asking:

Was it worth the stamp?

What makes Snail Mail Reviews unique is the blend:

  • An old-fashioned approach (handwritten letters, intentional communication)

  • Combined with modern brand feedback (website reviews, digital presence, customer experience)

It’s not about rejecting the digital world.

It’s about balancing it.

My purpose with Snail Mail Reviews is simple:

To remind people—and brands—that connection still matters.

That feedback can be thoughtful.
That communication can be intentional.
And that slowing down doesn’t mean falling behind—it means being present.

Through this journey, I hope to:

  • Encourage brands to value real customer feedback

  • Inspire others to communicate more intentionally

  • Rebuild a sense of community through shared experiences

  • Show that authenticity still has a place in today’s world

And maybe… just maybe…

Bring back a little bit of that feeling we used to get when we saw our name on a piece of mail.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for being here.

This is just the beginning.

And if no one has told you yet…

You’ve officially been snailed.
